  • 1) The Flat Water SUP ISA’s International FWSUP Instructor: Accreditation Program is designed to develop the skills, knowledge and abilities of these individuals who wish to obtain a scien- tific approach to the instructing of Stand Up paddleboarding.
    The objectives of the instructing scheme:
    To establish an international system of Instructors Accreditation courses, graduating from beginner to expert levels.
    To further develop, through educational programs including courses and resources, a body of knowledge on which surf instructors may draw.
    To provide instructors with opportunities, encouragement and support for further self-improvement in knowledge, safety and expertise.
    To contribute to the development of the instructing of SUP as a viable professional activity.

    2) If you don't have any lifeguard credential, you will need to take the Open Water Surf Rescue Training;
    Course Description: This 40-hour introductory level course involves lecture and skills training for those aspiring to be trained Surfing/Stand Up paddleboard Coach & Intructor for ocean and surf beaches. Subject matter ranges from the history of lifesaving and the responsibilities of the individual Lifesaver to the hands-on skills required to rescue and assist on site. Content of the course will follow the standards of the United States Lifesaving Association. Special note: This course is extremely physically demanding; excellent health and physical fitness is required; strong swimming skills required in order to successfully pass this course.
  • 2) Open Water Surf Rescue Training:Course Description:

ISA Flat Water SUP Instructor & Open Water Surf Rescue training Course

The objectives of the ISA Coaching & Instructing Program:

To establish an international system of Coaching and Instructing Courses, improving the safety and efficacy of surf instruction around the world.
To comply with the requirements of Organic Law #8, June 4, 2008 of the Sports & Recreation Department.
To further develop, through educational programs, a body of knowledge on which Coaches and Instructors may draw.
To provide Coaches and Instructors with employment opportunities, encouragement and support.
To advance SUP/surf Coaching and Instructing as a globally standardized and highly professional activity with stringent requirements.
Over time this program will expand to many other areas of professional development education for our great sport of surfing. All ISA Coaches and Instructors must abide by the Puerto Rico’s laws and County regulations of the area in which they work.
All ISA Instructors must be a minimum of 16 years of age to become an accredited ISA Instructor but must work under supervision of an ISA Instructor over 18 years of age. An ISA Instructor must be a minimum of 18 years of age to instruct without supervision.
